Westminster Kingsway College is working with Face-2-Face with Finance to develop a financial literacy package for students, staff and parents.
Activities and materials are being piloted this academic year (2004/2005) with a view to expanding these activities to other colleges in 2005.
The Pilot this year includes:
Introduction to Money Management
These are two tutorial sessions for 16-19 students in their first year of study at the colleges on the themes of:
| | Managing your income - P/T jobs, EMA. |
| | Bank accounts and budgeting. |
|
HE Finance for students
This unit has already been run at Westminster Kingsway College in 2003/04.
Seminars and materials run and developed by Face-2-Face in the pilot in 2003/04 are basically fine and just need to be updated in the light of feedback.
HE Finance for Parents
For parents/carers of students on level 3 courses, with the aims of raising awareness of the financial issues around progression to higher education.
Staff development
Training tutors, teaching and welfare staff. Welfare staff training would take place in Autumn and teaching staff training in the summer.
The plan is to offer training to 200 staff.
|
Time scale
Delivery over the 2004-05 academic year with a dissemination conference in Autumn 2005.
Target students
All students studying in FE.
Target staff
Welfare advisors and pastoral tutors.
Outputs
It is proposed that the materials for running these sessions and for training the welfare and teaching staff be put together in a financial literacy pack, which will then be made available to other FEIs in the central London area. Many of the financial literacy materials used with students are available from Face-2-Face with Finance.
